10 Web 2.0 Apps I Couldn’t Live Without

What is the first thing you do when you connect to the internet? Do you check your mail? Do you read the latest news? Do you send instant messages to your friends? Do you entertain yourself with the most viewed video online? Whatever it might be, we need applications to spur our mornings. Here is my list of top 10 web 2.0 apps that I couldn’t live without everyday.

Dictionary

When I stumble on an unfamiliar word, I quickly asked Dictionary.com for its meaning. It never fails to amaze me. The thesaurus section also has a wealth of information to enhance a simple boring sentence into something extraordinary.

Entrecard

The concept of dropping and sharing business cards is now online. This business card 2.0 is a stunner! It is a brilliant idea that allows you to advertise for free at other websites with your available credits. I’ve just given almost 2500 Entrecard credits in my first contest.

Firefox

My ultimate browser of choice. It knocks out others in competition with its wide range of add-ons, extensions, plugins and themes. It renders CSS codes flawlessly and loads up easily. Watch out for Firefox 3.

Friendster

I never thought I would be able to get in touch with my old long lost friends, not until I’ve found Friendster. I’ve been using it since November 2003 by connecting with my friends and other contacts. This social network is my daily stop over.

Gmail

I’ve been using this web application way back 2004 when 1 Gb storage was already a delight and invites are only for the exclusive few. Today, I can already send instant messages to my friends in the contact list whenever they are logged into their account. I can also save our conversations and retrieve it whenever I log back in my chat history. With the addition of IMAP support in October 2007, all the more it became my all time favorite.

Google Analytics

This free web statistics service with an informative GUI gives me 80 detailed reports of all my websites. It is easy to install and allows me to retrieve back all the information I need in analyzing the performance of my websites. What’s great about this is I can add unlimited websites in my account for free!

Google Reader

I’ve got to admit that reading feeds take up most of my morning. What I need is something that is easy to load and gives me what I want straight to the point - this is what I love about Google Reader. It is a very robust web-based aggregator capable of reading RSS and Atom feeds both online and offline. It’s a fantastic application that can easily burn tons of information instantly.

Wordpress

The greatest content management system ever made! Blogging makes it easier because of its user-friendly dashboard. I can easily customize my blog with a variety of themes and useful plugins that is available in the web for download. One nifty feature I like about it is post timestamp. I can write a blog post and timestamp it with a future date I want it to be published.

Yahoo Messenger

The epitome of instant messengers. I’ve been using it since the day I started using the internet. Now with fast internet connection, I can do video and voice chats with my family, friends and contacts right at the comfort of my own room.

YouTube

Who would have thought that this is the biggest buyout this last year at $1.65 billion? It revolutionizes how we should be watching homemade videos. This online video sharing site creates so much viral marketing that a lot of unknown face became an instant celebrity. I admit, when I have the time to unwind, this is the place I hang out online.

All of it simply makes my life easier, ignites my creativity and makes my work even more productive. Next year, I might update this list. For now, I’m happy using all of it. So, what is your 10 web 2.0 apps?
